Saturday, July 23 the building bliz for the Wade Morris house in Smithville is projected to be completed.
The Rev. Paul Stevens, rector of All Saints’, Tupelo says the joint venture with local congregations and Habitat for Humanity Chapters has worked well to build the home for the Morris family.
As reported in the July issue of The Mississippi Episcopalian, the Morris family lost all their belongings in the April 27th EF-5 tornado that destroyed Smithville killing 15 people in the community of 900. This tragedy for the Morris family was compounded by Wade’s long recovery from serious burns he received while trying to put out a grease fire at his sister’s home. Morris is scheduled for surgery and still making trips to Memphis to receive treatments. The family has three children, including a new born.
According to Stevens, the blitz build on one acre of land just south of Smithville is going well.
“We’ve had a wonderful turnout of volunteers from All Saints’, other Episcopal parishes within and outside of the Diocese of Mississippi,” said Stevens. Other denominations and organizations have aided in the construction of the Morris house as well
A celebration and house blessing will be done when the home is ready for occupancy.
