Relief work is ramping up in Hattiesburg and Petal following the last Saturday's tornadoes.
A workday will be hosted by Trinity/Hattiesburg on Saturday, Jan. 28. Volunteers are asked to be at the church's parish hall at 9 a.m. Trinity rector Marian Fortner said there will be a pick-up breakfast of biscuits and coffee will be provided. The work day will end at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
The Rev. Ben Robertson, chairperson of the diocesan Disaster Prepardness and Response Team (DPRT), said that a relief trailer was towed to Trinity on Monday, Jan. 23, by Corey Schneider at the Gray Center.
"The trailer contains supplies, but participants [at the workday] are encouraged to bring gloves and any tools they can to help with debris removal," said Roberston.
Participants are asked to email the Rev. Alex Allain (allainta@gmail.com) by noon on Friday so that Trinity and its partners can plan the workday. Also any additional information may be easily passed along to those who respond.
Robertson also said in an email to clergy in the diocese on Monday that the DPRT made grants to the discretionary funds at Trinity and Ascension parishes.
Robertson asked for volunteers to email him (brobertson@ChapeloftheCrossMS.org) if there are questions about the work plan.
